Divers do have problems with their ears from time to time. One of the things it gives you the most problem is diving with a cold or pushing a cold, which is what we all do from time to time when you have the pressure of the assignment going on.  And if you have a cold, there’s something called a reverse block. In other words, as you come up, your Eustachian canal becomes blocked and you have an intense pain. So you can see the surface maybe ten feet above of 15 feet above. You can’t get there without almost passing out or even rupturing your eardrum. So you have to go down and up and down and up until the mucus in your Eustachian canal loosens up a bit. The air squeals through and it equalizes your eardrum.
