I give a lecture and it goes like this…to leaders. I say, how many of you people learned something about how to do your present job by screwing it up the first time? I say, my goodness. How can you then possibly say, no mistakes in this outfit? How can you not allow yourself mistakes? You’re not giving yourself a freedom to fail because I don’t believe in the word failure. You’re giving yourself the latitude to learn. I’ve learned most things I know how to do well, probably, by screwing it up the first time.
