You don’t realize how hard it is until you go to seven funerals and meet with the families of the people who have lost their loved ones. And yet, at the same time, every one of those families came up to me and said, “My loved one was doing what they love to do, and I want to make sure that you do everything possible to continue the mission that they were involved with.” When family members say that, you really do take that to heart. I remember going back and sharing that with people at the CIA, and everybody became that much more enthused about really making sure we went after bin Laden. That’s exactly what happened, is that there was even a greater commitment to seeing if we could find bin Laden.
