Dorothy Hamill: The first competition I ever won was the second competition I ever competed in. It was in Central Park in New York. And I remember the little girls who had perfect dresses and they had been skating for years and they all knew one another. They were all from Long Island and Manhattan and I was from Connecticut and there was nobody else that I knew. And when the scores went up on the board on the wall, they all looked at me and pointed and said, "You won!" And I was shocked because I wasn't as good as they were. So I don't know how I won. And I think -- you know, I never liked competition ever. It was always far too nerve-wracking. But I did well, so I guess that's why I kept doing it. And in order to get to do what I do today, I had to compete and I had to win a gold medal.

Even when I was on the world team two years before the Olympics, with ice skating you just never know that you're going to make it. And even then I thought, 'Well gee, I hope I make the Olympic team in 1976." There was never any thought that, "Yes I'm going to make the team and yeah I could win a medal." You know, deep down inside I knew that if I worked really hard and if I skated my best, I had a really good shot at making the team and I had a really good shot at winning a medal. And this is when I was already number two in the world. So you know, I was never that confident, but I knew if I did all the right things, I had a shot at it.

When I'm done touring arenas I would really like to just have an ensemble of incredible skaters and do a really unique skating show on Broadway. That's my dream, I'd love to do that, and just incorporate everything I've learned and experienced. I can handle music, I can handle dialogue, I can handle -- I don't know if I can sing, but I can handle movement, I can handle all those things. And New York loves figure skating. And that's the one thing that I've dreamt of that I've always wanted to do that I haven't really taken huge steps to doing yet, because I've been so busy with everything else.

I've grown up listening to Bruce Springsteen. And he pretty much defined my work ethic to a crowd. If you've ever been to a Bruce Springsteen concert, you leave exhausted and you can't wait to see him again. And that is a mentality and kind of a work ethic that I always wanted to have when I do one of our live shows at Stars on Ice. I always wanted to have that intensity and that "I'm bringing everybody on the ice with me," so that they'd want to come back and see it again. I didn't want to just entertain an audience, I wanted to build an audience, and Bruce Springsteen gave me that.

When I was very young I read about it, dreamed about it and when the opportunity came to do something about it I seemed to slip into it rather easily. Even the companionship that I made with similar friends in adventurous activities, I found very, very rewarding. Nothing is better fun that sitting down with a group of your peers who've done similar sort of things and just talking about your experiences. Maybe boasting a little bit here and there too, but sharing experiences that you all appreciate, you all know have been frightening and dangerous and have been successful.

Sir Edmund Hillary: I did have -- definitely -- one heroic figure who impressed me very much indeed, and that was the great Antarctic explorer, Shackleton. Shackleton I always admired because he was a tough man and a very good leader. And whenever he was in difficult circumstances, which he frequently was, he seemed to have the great ability to inspire his men and lead his party safely out of those conditions. So certainly Shackleton, I would have said, more than anything, was a role model for me. And later on, when I was down in the Antarctic myself and doing various adventures, I really felt that I tried to behave perhaps a little bit more like Shackleton, than any of the other famous Antarctic explorers.
