Paul Nitze on his farm in southern Maryland, still an enthusiastic horseman at age 80. After Nitze resigned from the Eisenhower administration in 1953, his wife entered Nitze in a horse race at the Charles County Fair. To his own great surprise and satisfaction, he won the race.
