George Balanchine (1904-1983) founder of the New York City Ballet. Trained in the Imperial Ballet School of pre-revolutionary Russia, he became the greatest ballet choreographer of the 20th century. He was teacher and mentor to Suzanne Farrell and many other great dancers.
