Featuring: Dr. Steven A. Rosenberg and Dr. Joan Seitz
Description: The genetic revolution has put into the hands of human beings powers which a few years ago could only be imagined. Genetic engineering has had a major influence on science and business and has begun to alter medicine and agriculture. Genetic engineering techniques have made possible large-scale production of certain medically-useful substances, such as insulin and interferons.
The issue of the right to privacy comes to bear when discussing genetic engineering as it applies to the use of techniques such as genetic fingerprinting and gene therapy. Privacy becomes an issue, also, in considering the role of government in requesting and requiring testing.
PROGRAM FOCUS: Life Science, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Government and the U.S. Constitution
