Module III: Pursuing a Career in Music


Research Project: Student Handout

Choose one of the following research projects to express your ideas:

  • Research poets who write humorous or story poems. Create a three-page web site that explores the way poems can use humor and storytelling to teach us about ourselves - a "poems can be fun" site!
  • Create a database of poets write humorous poems and/or poems that tell an unforgettable story.
  • Select a period in American history such as the Revolutionary War or the Gold Rush. Research the poets and poetry that told the story of these events. Create an oral presentation for the class that presents an historical event through the works of poets of that time.

Research Challenge
This video featured three recording artists and a record producer. But there are many exciting jobs that involve playing, recording, writing, producing, or working with music. Investigate and find out what they are!

RESEARCH FOCUS
Different Careers in Music

In this research project you will explore the types of careers available in the field of music. Use community resources, the library, and the Internet to search for information on different types of careers.

  • Careers in Classical Music
  • Colleges Specializing in Music, Art, and Drama
  • Writing Music for the Movies

  • A Career in Entertainment Law

RESEARCH OUTCOMES
When you have completed your research, develop one of the following:

  • Create a computer database of careers in music.
  • Write a teen magazine article about potential careers in music.
  • Choose one music career and write a profile of a person in this field.
