Justice and The Citizen: Tolerance in America, Vol. III

Justice and The Citizen: Tolerance in America, Vol. III

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

"The United States should continue policies of affirmative action."

Please review the arguments for and against the statement and enter your response.

Pros
Affirmative action is not reverse discrimination. It is simply a process to guarantee minorities equal access to opportunity. Affirmative action actually makes our democracy healthier because it taps into the rich and varied heritage of diversity. It is the road to dynamic growth and change - rather than a dead end of stagnation and withering.

Cons
Ironically, affirmative action is a good idea gone bad. It is nothing short of institutionalized reverse discrimination. It thwarts highly qualified citizens from pursuing life, liberty and happiness.
